COUNCIL BAN A WORRY FOR LEGITIMATE SHOOTERS
Members of the Joint Services Pistol Club, many who live in Edinburgh, are very concerned at Councillor Trevor Davies’ proposal for an Edinburgh city wide ban on air guns.
The Home Office have already legislated for a ban on the sale of air guns. This comes into force on 1st October 2007, when only licensed Fire Arms Dealers will be able to sell them.
A spokesman for the club said: “The new Home Office legislation should be enough to prevent the sale of air weapons to the general public. I would hope Mr Davies is not using this for political gain with the elections coming up soon. Perhaps if responsible Councils had banned the sale of air weapons in toy shops years ago, when they should have, they wouldn’t be thinking about it now. We are very concerned, many of our members live within the City of Edinburgh Council area and we will be watching this very closely.”
There are hundreds of people throughout Scotland involved in target shooting. The Scottish Pistol Association’s annual Air Pistol Championships are again being held at Tulliallen Police College on the weekend of 31st March/1st April.
