Probationary Membership As a prospective member you are required to serve a period of probation. The purpose of this probation is to give the club committee the opportunity to assess your suitability for club membership. Before inviting you to take full membership the committee will take into account matters such as safe gun handling, general attitude towards firearms and observance of club rules. It follows that probationers should attend the range reasonably regularly, become known to the other members and take part in club activities. Those who fail in this respect may be asked to serve an extended period of probation. The Home Office requires the probation to be at least three months. At the discretion of the committee, in the case of a candidate who is already a full member of another club or who holds a firearm certificate, this period may be shortened or waived entirely. A section will be provided in the range register for you to sign in and out. Your signature should be witnessed by another member. This register is scrutinised regularly by the club Police Liaison Officer. When the period of probation has elapsed, a committee meeting is convened. If the members are satisfied that you have satisfactorily completed your probation you will be offered full membership.
